Ronaldo confident of goals for Portugal at World Cup
Cristiano Ronaldo says he is confident of scoring goals and helping Portugal to a successful World Cup.
"I am sure of one thing - I will score goals and help Portugal to victories," he said in an interview with the Publico daily published Sunday.
Ronaldo has been refusing to give interviews to journalists at the team's camp at Covilha, and his interview with Publico was conducted by email.
The Real Madrid star said Portugal were in the toughest group at the World Cup, against Brazil, North Korea and Ivory Coast, the team's first opponent in Group G.
However Portugal were capable of going all the way at the June 11-July 11 tournament in South Africa, Ronaldo said.
"If we can reach the semi-final we can make it to the final, why not?" he said.
Ronaldo admitted he was "frustrated" by a season without titles at Real Madrid, saying "We were all to blame." Coach Manuel Pellegrini, who was dismissed last week, was merely "the weakest link in the chain."
He added he was happy with the appointment of fellow countryman Jose Mourinho as Real coach.
"I like coaches with a winning mentality. Mourinho is a winner," he said.
